The Ultimate Dutch Oven Cookbook

We are delighted to announce that our second recipe book, The Ultimate Dutch Oven Cookbook, is now available for pre-order and can be purchased from Amazon, or good bookstores large and small.

The Ultimate Dutch Oven Cookbook is a collection of 60 recipes all of which use everyone’s favorite kitchen tool, the Dutch Oven. If you have one, you’ll know how versatile it is, and we use ours almost daily. Each chapter focuses on a different technique: braising, steaming and baking, making pasta and grains, sweet and savory pies, bread-making, and deep frying. We explain how the Dutch Oven is the perfect pot for so many recipes, and how this traditional metal pot has endured over the centuries. If you’ve been following our blog for a while, you might remember that we underwent a major kitchen renovation last year. In fact, we pulled out the old cabinets, counters and sink in late February 2020, and then unfortunately got hit by the New York shutdown which lasted a couple of months. We lost our original contractors, and it wasn’t until summer that we finally got ceiling lights in the kitchen, although cabinets, plumbing and flooring would take quite a bit longer. Fortunately, we’d ordered a new oven-of-our-dreams early, so we were able to take possession of that in April. Armed with a new oven, a LOT of folding tables which stood in for our cabinets, we decided that it would be a great time to start work on a new cookbook.

And why Dutch ovens? Honestly, other than a cast iron skillet for sautéeing, the Dutch oven is probably the piece of bakeware that we use the most. It’s great for so many cooking techniques, from sauteeing to braising, simmering soups, baking bread, making pies, grains and even deep frying. It’s happy on the stovetop, in the oven, and it’s good-looking enough to bring to the table (provided you put it on a heatproof trivet!). We wanted to write a cookbook that didn’t just contain a series of recipes, but that also showcased the beauty of the oven and explained why it does what it does so well.

We structure the book in the following sections: Mouthwatering Braises, Steams and Bakes, Pasta and Grains, Soups and Stews, Sweet and Savory Pies, Easy Breads, and Deep Fried Delights. Here are just a few of the 60 recipes we include in the book: Crispy Duck Legs with Lentils, Tofu and Farro Grain Bowl, Tacos de Carnitas, Blackberry Slump, and Mussels with Chorizo and Fennel.

You can read more about this book here on our book page, where you can also place your pre-order at the bookstore of your choice. (You can also call your local bookstore to make sure they get it in stock!)
